Today is Constitution Day 2026

The U.S. Constitution was created in 1787. It is the supreme law of the United States. It establishes the framework for the federal government, and it outlines the rights of "we the people," the citizens.

September 17 is designated by law as Constitution Day. It commemorates the signing of the the U.S. Constitution, and it recognizes new citizens.

The Constitution consists of a preamble, seven articles, and 27 amendments, including the Bill of Rights, which guarantees individual freedoms. According to John Hillen, Distinguished Lecturing Fellow at the Sanform School of Public Policy, "Americans swear to a set of ideas embodied in the Constitution that sovereignty flows upward from the citizens, that power must be divided to be safe, and most American life is meant to be lived beyond the reach of government, in the hands of free people themselves."

Today is a reminder that we are not just shareholders in this experiment but that we all are the management team in the project to "form a more perfect Union."
