You are invited to participate in a celebratory bell tolling at 12 noon local.
To commemorate this historic semiquincentennial (the celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in the United States), we are joining with MOWW's Freedom Bells, a nationwide program to toll bells together in a shared national moment proclaiming liberty -- a moment of reflection and celebration.
The ceremony will feature the reading of the Declaration of Independence, patriotic music, and other readings of historical importance. We will listen to Speaker of the House Johnson lead our nation in a prayer of rededication recommitting America to uniting as “One Nation, Under God.” Senator Brent Hagenbuch (SD30) will also deliver remarks.
The Declaration announced that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject to British rule and were free and independent states. That group of brave men changed the world by agreeing on a set of revolutionary ideas that led to the foundation of the United States.
Invite your community leaders, your friends, neighbors, and relatives as well as your clergy and members of your church to join you in celebrating this 250th anniversary.
Our meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome!
Raffle tickets will be on sale for the 250th anniversary quilt. 1 ticket $5 or 5 tickets for $20.
